A Week in Tribeca: Kristy & Liv’s NYC Diaries Pt. I

Designer and Creative Director Kristy recently returned from New York City, where she was scouting the next FLANNEL boutique, and I was incredibly lucky to be her travel companion. I'm Liv, Kristy’s daughter and FLANNEL’s marketing and e-commerce manager. I am so excited to share all the places we fell in love with during our week in Tribeca, from where to stay to casual coffee spots, beautifully curated boutiques and our top picks for a balmy afternoon wine.

First, welcome to Tribeca! Originally an industrial district in the 19th and early 20th century, Tribeca was home to a thriving textile and manufacturing industry which is very much woven into the tapestry of Tribeca today. Cobblestone streets, converted warehouses and historic landmarks are set amongst chic modern architecture and a thriving arts and culture scene. So the story goes, Tribeca has evolved rapidly in recent years, and the architect behind much of that change was, in fact, actor Robert De Niro. His business ventures in the area transformed Tribeca from a crumbling industrial precinct into a magnet for celebrities and well-to-do families. Unlike other Manhattan hotspots, Tribeca remains largely tourist-free, making it a haven of artistic charm for residents and savvy visitors alike. The blend of luxury with its laid-back vibes made it perfectly suited to our Aussie way.

Where to stay:

The Warren Street Hotel

If you have read a few of our previous travel guides, you will know that Kristy loves staying at the Firmdale Hotels. They are filled with quirky, eclectic interiors by award-winning designer Kit Kemp, and have all the offerings of five-star stays. Their latest, the Warren Street Hotel, is no exception! From the moment you step through its doors you will feel pampered and at-home, ready to explore all that Tribeca has to offer. Psst… Make sure you include breakfast – it’s delicious!

Where to stop for your mid-morning coffee:

Café Clementine

We couldn’t go past Café Clementine. This quaint spot not only serves the yummiest cold brew, but it also had us feeling like we were one of the locals! Lots of seasoned New Yorkers would rush in on their lunch break from down in the financial district to grab a coffee and one of the BEST sandwiches we’ve ever had! Highly recommend grabbing a takeaway cold brew before heading out to shop.

Where to shop:

180 Store

180 Store was an awesome find on a side street away from the bustling shopping strips. It offers a perfectly curated selection of high-end fashion, focussing on unique international brands with an emphasis on technique and craftmanship. Our favourites in their curation was their selection of Japanese denim, bespoke hand-embroidered cottons from India and luxe homewares. The owner also had their gorgeous puppies wandering around which was, of course, a bonus!

Bode Women’s

The infamous Bode recently opened up their sole women’s store in Tribeca. Like 180 Store, it’s tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Tribeca which only adds to its unique charm. The only way to describe Bode is distinctively eclectic and, fittingly, one-of-a-kind. Each item reflects individuality with bespoke, intricate details paired with refined finishes and quirky silhouettes. We especially love their ‘one-of-a-kind’ pieces made from vintage and antique textiles like tea-towels, cloths, lace and more.

Clic

For those who love discovering the latest trends in homewares, Clic is the go-to spot and has been one of our favourite stores for a long time. Clic showcases a range of brands that are fresh and exciting with a luxe bohemian edge. It’s also right across from one of our afternoon soirée recommendations, so pop on over to the Odeon or Tiny’s after you’ve shopped!

Where to grab dinner, a snack and a glass of pét-nat (or two):

The Odeon

For a quintessential New York experience, head to the Odeon. This iconic bistro is a fantastic place to sip a cocktail while people-watching. Its vibrant atmosphere, mix of locals and maybe even a celebrity or two makes it an exciting spot to soak in the city’s energy. We loved having a quick drink here, then popping over next door to our favourite restaurant, Tiny’s.

Tiny’s & The Bar Upstairs

Tiny’s was where we spent our most memorable nights! Set in an old 1800s townhouse, the space is a feast for your eyes with dusty pink patterned wallpaper, antique brass lamps, amazing waiters and fun guests! Be sure to request a table upstairs where the ambiance has that typical New York buzz to it. Our favourites on the menu were the meatballs, shrimp tacos and Brussels sprouts – delish! Also highly recommend grabbing a bottle of their pét-nat for the table.

Della’s

For a more laid-back vibe, grab a spot on the sidewalk at Della’s. Positioned perfectly for prime people-watching, it’s the ideal place to enjoy a snack and glass of orange wine while observing the lively street scene of Tribeca. We loved getting here at around 5pm to watch the world go by as everyone was leaving work to enjoy their evenings.

Frenchette

If you’re after something a little bit more sophisticated, Frenchette is a must. This renowned restaurant offers a blend of traditional and contemporary French dishes, making it perfect for a special night out. The elegant setting and exceptional cuisine promise an unforgettable dining experience.

Osteria Carlina

Another sophisticated choice is Osteria Carlina. This restaurant is a charming Northern Italian gem with a warm, inviting atmosphere and an exceptional menu of traditional pasta dishes and inventive small plates. Save room for dessert, you won't want to miss their house-made Tirimasu or their hazelnut, chocolate and mascarpone cream cake.

And that’s all for Tribeca! However… Obviously you can’t go to NYC and only explore one neighbourhood?! Stay tuned for Part II, where we’ll share our favourite spots to visit beyond Tribeca… X
